About Emergency Medicine

  • Emergency Medicine is a medical specialty. It is supported by a curriculum that encompasses essential knowledge, skills, and competencies specific to a specialist in Emergency Medicine. EM-specialists provide their competencies in the pre-hospital field and in the Emergency Department/Emergency Room.
  • Emergency medical care is more than just a medical specialty. It involves teamwork and is provided by an organised Emergency Medical System. Doctors, nurses, paramedics, technicians, social workers, are all involved in the delivery of good Emergency medical care.
  • What is not Emergency Medicine: Any medical condition that does not require immediate life-saving interventions and can be effectively treated in the primary care system and ambulatory care.
