emergnSEE 2026 – India’s First Hospital Stair-Climb Challenge for Emergency Medicine Day

On 27th May 2026, the Department of Emergency Medicine at STAR Hospitals, Hyderabad, India, organised “emergnSEE 2026” — what we believe to be India’s first-ever hospital stair-climb challenge dedicated to Emergency Medicine Day.

This initiative was designed not merely as a fitness event, but as a symbolic reflection of life in emergency medicine. Every shift in the Emergency Department feels like climbing unseen stairs — physically demanding, emotionally exhausting, and relentless — yet emergency care teams continue to rise, every single day.

The challenge involved participants climbing a 10-level hospital staircase, highlighting endurance, teamwork, resilience, and the often invisible effort behind emergency care. Doctors, nurses, paramedics, support staff, administrators, and hospital teams came together early in the morning before routine clinical work began, reinforcing the idea that emergency medicine is never the work of individuals alone. It is a system held together by people who continue moving even when tired.

This year’s Emergency Medicine Day theme, “Safe Space for Emergency Medicine Teams: STOP Violence Everywhere,” resonated deeply with us. Across the world, violence against healthcare workers is increasing, and emergency departments frequently stand at the frontline of this crisis. Through this event, we wanted to celebrate the strength of emergency medicine teams while also reminding society that healthcare workers deserve safety, dignity, and respect.

The event also aimed to create awareness about physical fitness and mental resilience among healthcare workers themselves. In emergency medicine, endurance is not an abstract concept; it is lived daily in crowded corridors, resuscitation bays, trauma calls, and sleepless nights.

What made the event special was its spirit. There were no elite athletes, no professional competitors — just healthcare workers climbing together before sunrise, carrying with them the shared fatigue and shared pride of a profession that never truly sleeps.

Emergency Medicine is often described as the “front door” of the hospital. But perhaps it is also the staircase: always busy, always moving, always connecting people through moments of crisis toward hope.
