Life in emergency medicine

Every day in the Emergency Department (ED) begins the same: the buzz of monitors, quick handovers, and the race against time.

Dr. Jasvant Singh steps into his shift, knowing anything can happen. Within minutes, he’s juggling chest pains, a broken arm, a stroke alert, and a young child struggling to breathe. In emergency medicine, there’s no routine — only constant readiness.

Challenges pile up:

  • Managing critical cases with limited time.
  • Calming worried families.
  • Dealing with overcrowding and delays.
  • Balancing emotions after tough losses.

The trauma pager beeps — a car accident victim is rushed in. Teamwork becomes everything. Focus sharpens. Decisions must be quick, but careful.

Between emergencies, Dr. Jasvant listens to patients’ fears, reassures, teaches, and sometimes just holds a hand. No meal breaks, barely time to sit — but every action matters.

By the end of a long shift, he is exhausted, but proud.

He has fought for lives, comforted the grieving, and made a difference.
